Collata is Nigeria’s digital collateralized lending infrastructure and marketplace. Owned by Central Securities Clearing System Plc (CSCS), Collata enables investors to unlock cash loans and revolving credit lines using eligible Nigerian Exchange (NGX)-listed stock portfolios as collateral—without selling their shares.
Pledge: An investor selects stocks from their CSCS depository account to serve as collateral.
Match & Evaluate: Accredited institutional lenders review the application against their risk policies.
Lien: CSCS places a legal, electronic lien on the selected stocks.
Approve & Disburse: Upon the lender's explicit approval, funds are disbursed within 24 hours to the borrower’s bank account.
Release: Once the loan is fully repaid, the CSCS lien is released automatically, restoring full unrestricted control of the shares to the investor.
No. Collata is a financial technology infrastructure provider and marketplace. Loans are funded directly by accredited institutional lenders, including commercial banks, merchant banks, microfinance banks, asset managers and private credit funds. Neither Collata nor CSCS Plc assumes balance-sheet credit or default risk.
Eligible stocks are determined by each participating lender. Lenders configure the stocks they accept and the approved loan-to-value (LTV) ratio for each ticker. Collata matches your portfolio against active lender criteria to display the shares that qualify.
Within 24 hours after approval. Once your stock pledge is confirmed at CSCS and the lender formally approves your application, proceeds are disbursed to your verified commercial bank account or Collata wallet.
No. Your shares remain registered under your Clearing House Number (CHN) in your name at CSCS. You continue to receive cash dividends and bonus share issues, and retain exposure to future stock-price growth.
Your limit depends on the lender’s LTV ratio for your specific equities, typically between 40% and 70% of live market value. For example, ₦10,000,000 of eligible shares at 60% LTV may support borrowing of up to ₦6,000,000.
Collata continuously tracks live NGX prices. In the healthy range below 75% LTV, your facility operates normally. Around 75%–80% LTV, you receive alerts and a cure window, typically 24–48 trading hours, to add eligible shares or make a partial repayment. At the contractual liquidation threshold, typically 85% LTV, only the shares required to settle the outstanding balance are sold and any surplus is refunded.
Repayments can be made by direct transfer to the virtual account generated in Collata or by Direct Debit configured within Collata.
Yes. Collata offers an earmarked IPO facility that allows eligible investors to pledge existing equities to finance new IPO allotments. Approved funds are routed directly from the lender to the receiving custodian bank, with the applicable allotment form and KYC/CHN details prepared through the platform.
Eligible institutional lenders can submit an onboarding KYB request through the platform. Once reviewed and approved by CSCS Admin, the institution receives access to the Collata Lender Web Console and headless APIs to configure products, underwriting policies and portfolio disbursements.
The lender. No loan is disbursed automatically without the lender’s explicit approval. Lenders evaluate the borrower dossier and collateral composition before initiating disbursement through the web console or API.
The lender. Credit, default, market and recovery risks reside with the lender. Collata and CSCS provide depository locking, mark-to-market tracking and broker liquidation channels, but do not act as insurer, co-lender or balance-sheet guarantor.
Collata provides asset-backed facilities secured by exchange-traded equities under a CSCS lien, first-ranking legal encumbrance controls, live risk monitoring, automated margin notifications, broker-integrated liquidation execution and API integration with core banking systems.
If a contractual liquidation threshold is breached or a facility defaults at maturity, Collata activates the borrower’s applicable Power of Attorney. An accredited dealing member places market sell orders on the NGX, with net proceeds swept to the lender’s settlement account. Where applicable, insurance cover may protect against a deficit.
Collata helps protect brokerage AUM during client cash-flow crunches, creates statutory commission opportunities through liquidations and portfolio adjustments, and supports client retention with institutional liquidity powered by CSCS.
When a client initiates a pledge, the broker receives an electronic Lien Affirmation Request, verifies the client’s CHN and any conflicting encumbrances, and confirms the request so CSCS can progress the application and place the legal lien.
No. Pledged shares are isolated in a restricted CSCS sub-account and cannot be sold, transferred or crossed until full repayment is recorded and Collata transmits an automated lien-release instruction.
Through the Collata Broker Portal’s Referral module, stockbroking firms can earn referral fees when a referred investor secures a loan and track the client journey and fees through disbursement, repayment and closure.
Insurers can provide risk-mitigation covers for institutional lenders, including Credit Life Insurance for borrower death or permanent disability and Collateral Deficit Protection for shortfalls caused by severe market events or trading halts.
Premiums can be deducted at loan origination through Collata’s smart-split fee routing and remitted to the insurer. Collata provides an audit trail covering lien timestamps, NGX closing prices, margin-call delivery logs and execution receipts for claims validation.
Collata is a specialized digital technology Product wholly owned by Central Securities Clearing System Plc. CSCS operates as the national central securities depository, clearing and settlement house, providing custody management and statutory lien enforcement for collateralized assets on Collata.
The lien is registered directly within CSCS at clearing-house level. While the lien flag is active, CSCS systems reject instructions to sell or transfer the pledged shares.
